Because driving with a damaged windshield can be dangerous and jeopardize your safety! According to automobile safety experts, the windshield is among the top three automobile safety features, right up there with seat belts and airbags.
In an impact, your windshield:
- Prevents the occupants from being ejected
- Provides greater shock resistance
- Keeps the roof from collapsing
In addition to obscuring your vision, a chipped or cracked windshield will not provide the same protection in case of an accident and can even, under some conditions, interfere with proper airbag deployment. These are good reasons for having repairs done promptly.
Do you have glass breakage coverage?
This coverage, which is provided under most auto insurance contracts, includes expenses for the repair or replacement of all your vehicle’s windows. A windshield repair does not normally require a deductible, and it does not affect your insurance premium. A deductible is, however, required for a windshield replacement.
Repair or replace?
Assurances Groupe Vézina’s team offers the following advice:
Have an auto glass specialist assess the nature of the damage to determine whether your windshield needs to be repaired or replaced. He or she will recommend a repair whenever possible. Specialized technicians follow a proven and reliable method of injecting a clear resin into the damaged area. Following the repair, your windshield will look as good as new and provide you with full protection.
In some instances, the specialist has no alternative but to install a new windshield. Side and rear windows cannot be repaired and must be replaced.
In any event, don’t wait until it’s too late! Whether your windshield needs to be repaired or replaced, act now. It’s important for your safety and that of your passengers.
