Remettre véhicule sur la route

Putting a vehicle back on the road after storage

Did you put a vehicle in storage during winter? Before putting it back on the road, you need to reactivate your registration and insurance. In the event of an accident, you’d be covered, but above all, you’d be complying with the law. Assurances Groupe Vézina takes a look at the pros and cons for you.

REACTIVATE YOUR REGISTRATION BEFORE YOU HIT THE ROAD

There are two ways to reactivate your registration:

Has your vehicle been stored for more than 12 months? The SAAQ will require a mechanical inspection from a recognized specialist.

Good to know: When you put a vehicle back on the road, you pay registration fees for the whole current month. That’s why it’s to your advantage to take it out of storage at the beginning of the month. You’ll get more bang for your buck. Well worth your while!

REACTIVATING YOUR INSURANCE COVERAGE

You must also reactivate your insurance. Just give your broker a call.

You will receive a storage credit on the civil liability and collision segments portion of your premiums (including upset if it’s included in your coverage). Note, however, that the coverage for risks such as theft and vandalism are not credited.

STORAGE IS COVERED UNDER LEISURE VEHICLE INSURANCE

When establishing the insurance premium for your motorcycle, snowmobile or watercraft, your broker will take into account the fact that they are used seasonally. You therefore don’t have to notify them when you store or remove your vehicle from storage.

Happy trails!
