Vézina Group Insurance and its affiliates are committed to protecting your personal information. Our privacy commitment informs you of our privacy practices. It outlines our responsibilities and your rights with respect to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information.
Information and method of collection
The information we collect depends on the insurance products you request and purchase, the services you have access to and use, your payment method and how you contact us. Information is collected in a variety of ways:
1. The information you provide to us
We collect personal information from you when you inquire about our insurance policies, request a quote and make an insurance claim, payment or claim as part of your own insurance policy. This includes personal information such as your name, contact information, marital status, driver’s licence number, description of your vehicle or property, information about your loan or mortgage and your payment or banking information.
2. Information we obtain from third parties
We also collect information from third parties, as permitted by law. These third parties include Insurers, government agencies, consumer information agencies, claims adjusters and other third parties who may provide information about you or provide services for you and your insured vehicle or insured property. When we collect this information, we do so by obtaining your consent or confirming that the third party has lawfully collected it and has the right to share it with us. This information includes, but is not limited to, the following personal information:
- Driving record and claims history
- Credit Information
- Accident reports
- Witness statements
3. Calls, chat sessions and other communications
We may record calls, chat sessions and other communications you may have with us to ensure the quality of our customer service, to confirm our discussions and your instructions, to resolve a complaint or for the training of our staff. If you do not want your communications to be recorded, you can do business with us by visiting one of our offices or by notifying us by mail or by sending us an email.
4. Cookies, Pixels and Other Technologies
We may use cookies, pixel tags and other technologies to identify you on our website, to collect information about your use of the site and to allow you to access some of our online services or those provided by third parties. However, if you disable them, you may not be able to access parts of our website.
5. Your consent for others
We may ask you for information about other persons covered by your insurance (for example, designated drivers). When you provide us with information about another person, we expect you to obtain their permission to share this information with us and to consent on their behalf to this Privacy Commitment.
Why we collect, use and share information
- We collect, use and disclose personal information about you for a variety of reasons, including:
- better serve and communicate with you effectively;
- verify your identity and ownership;
- assess and underwrite insurance risks;
- determining rates, charges and premiums;
- assist or support the resolution of claims
- promote and market the products and services that we offer, or that are offered by our affiliates or strategic partners or allies, including insurance companies and insurance wholesalers, claims adjusters or intermediaries;
- conduct market research;
- recognize and create advertisements relevant to you on our websites or applications or on third-party websites and applications;
- collect statistical data, review and integrate information into insurance databases;
- report as required by regulatory authorities or other insurance organizations, including claims history, in accordance with regulatory requirements and prudent insurance practices;
- detect, prevent and contain fraud and unauthorized or illegal activities;
- comply with all applicable laws and meet the requirements of authorizations
- disclose your information to external service providers for external processing such as data processing and payments;
- share your information with our affiliates for all of the purposes described above.
Disclosure of information
When we disclose your personal information to third parties, we require them to protect and treat it in accordance with our privacy practices and all applicable laws. These third parties may occasionally process and store your information outside of Canada. If your personal information is processed and stored in a foreign country, it will be subject to the laws of that country and may be disclosed in accordance with its laws.
Commercial Operations
If we initiate discussions on a merger, acquisition or sale of an asset with a third party, we may disclose your personal information to the third party, if applicable, to assess the business transaction. If, as a result of the transaction, your information is subject to new privacy practices, we will advise you accordingly.
How to access and correct your information
You have the right to request correction of your personal information. You also have the right to access your personal information in our possession or custody, subject to any legal restriction or right of refusal. However, if you exercise this right of access, we may charge you a reasonable fee for photocopying and sending your file information. If you want to access or have information corrected, please contact our Privacy Officer.
How to withdraw your consent
You may withdraw your consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information, subject to certain limitations. However, if you withdraw it, we may not be able to provide you with our insurance products and services or offer you the best rate for your insurance policy. You may also withdraw your consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information for marketing purposes. If you wish to withdraw your consent, please contact our Privacy Officer.
Data privacy incident
In the event of an incident jeopardizing the confidentiality of your personal data, We will advise all affected individuals and organizations and the Commission d’accès à l’information if the incident involves a risk of serious harm.
